Miguel Eladio López-Alegría (Madrid, 30 de mayo de 1958), conocido en entornos angloparlantes como Michael López-Alegría, es el primer astronauta nacido en España en viajar al espacio. Tiene doble nacionalidad, estadounidense y española. [1] [2] Realizó tres misiones del transbordador espacial y una en la nave Soyuz.
Michael López-Alegría (born Miguel Eladio López Alegría on May 30, 1958) is an astronaut, test pilot and commercial astronaut with dual nationality, American and Spanish; a veteran of three Space Shuttle missions and one International Space Station mission.
A veteran of four space flights, Lopez- Alegria has logged more than 257 days in space and performed 10 spacewalks totaling 67 hours and 40 minutes of EVA. He retired from the Navy in June 2008and left NASA in March 2012 . Lopez-Alegria currently serves as t of the Presiden Commercial Spaceflight Federation in Washington, D.C.
Chief Astronaut. Michael López-Alegría is a decorated astronaut who returned to low-Earth orbit for the sixth time in 2024 as commander of Axiom Mission 3. He also commanded Axiom Space’s first private astronaut mission to the International Space Station (ISS) in 2022, known as Axiom Mission 1.
López-Alegría returned to space as the Commander of Ax-3, on January 18, 2024. He holds NASA records for the most Extravehicular Activities (EVA) or “spacewalks” (10) and cumulative EVA time (67 hours 40 minutes). He was inducted to the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame as a 2020 inductee.
