Sir Godfrey Newbold Hounsfield CBE FRS HonFREng (/ ˈ h aʊ n z f iː l d / HOWNZ-feeld; 28 August 1919 – 12 August 2004) was a British electrical engineer who shared the 1979 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine with Allan MacLeod Cormack for his part in developing the diagnostic technique of X-ray computed tomography (CT).
Godfrey N. Hounsfield was a British engineer who invented the EMI-Scanner, the first clinical brain-scanner and the technique of computed tomography. He received the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1979 for his pioneering work in medical imaging.
Godfrey Hounsfield was born in 1919 on a small farm in Sutton-on-Trent in England. His pioneering work on CT scanning began in 1967, it was announced to an astonished world in 1972, and the use of CT has grown in every year since then.
