  1. Joseph Sauveur (French pronunciation: [ʒozɛf sovœʁ]; 24 March 1653 – 9 July 1716) was a French mathematician and physicist. He was a professor of mathematics and in 1696 became a member of the French Academy of Sciences.

  2. Joseph Sauveur was born at La Flêche on March 24, 1653. Displaying an early interest in mechanics, he was sent to the Jesuit College at La Flêche and later, abandoning both the religious and the medical professions, he devoted himself to the study of Mathematics in Paris.
