Alain Connes (French: [alɛ̃ kɔn]; born 1 April 1947 in Draguignan) is a French mathematician, known for his contributions to the study of operator algebras and noncommutative geometry. He is a professor at the Collège de France, Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques, Ohio State University and Vanderbilt University.
Pesquisa. Connes estuda álgebras de operadores. Em seus primeiros trabalhos sobre álgebras de von Neumann na década de 1970, ele conseguiu obter a classificação quase completa dos fatores injetivos. Ele também formulou o problema de imersão de Connes.
