Louis I the Fair, also known as the Wise or the Righteous ( Polish: Ludwik I Sprawiedliwy, Roztropny, or Prawy) or Louis I of Brzeg ( Ludwik I brzeski; c. 1321 – 6/23 December 1398) was Duke of Legnica from 1342 to 1346 (jointly with his elder brother Wenceslaus I until 1345) and of Brzeg from 1358 until his death.

When Ludwig I. Herzog von Brieg-Liegnitz was born about 1321, in Legnica, Wrocław, Poland, his father, Boleslaw III the Generous, was 31 and his mother, Margaret of Bohemia Duchess of Wroclaw, was 26. He had at least 3 sons and 3 daughters with Princess Agnes von Glogau.
The Duchy of Brzeg (Polish: Księstwo Brzeskie) or Duchy of Brieg (German: Herzogtum Brieg; Czech: Knížectví břežské) was one of the Duchies of Silesia, created in 1311 during the fragmentation of the Duchy of Legnica.
Based on Hedwig's hagiography (Latin: Vita beatae Hedwigis), the illustrated codex was produced in 1353 at the court workshop of Hedwig's descendant, Duke Louis I of Liegnitz, in Lubin.
