The Jiaqing Emperor (13 November 1760 – 2 September 1820), also known by his temple name Emperor Renzong of Qing, personal name Yongyan, was the sixth emperor of the Qing dynasty and the fifth Qing emperor to rule over China proper. He was the 15th son of the Qianlong Emperor.

Jiajing was the reign name (nianhao) of the 11th emperor of the Ming dynasty (1368–1644), whose long reign (1521–66/67) added a degree of stability to the government but whose neglect of official duties ushered in an era of misrule. Notoriously cruel, Jiajing caused hundreds of officials who had.
Like all poets writing in Chinese, the Qing emperors were highly aware of the recursive power of borrowed rhyme patterns. Qianlong ’s 40,750 or more recorded poems (more than a few ghosted by his aides) are often prefaced with the source of their rhymes, most often chosen from those used by Kangxi.
