Beatrice d'Este (29 June 1475 – 3 January 1497) was Duchess of Bari and Milan by marriage to Ludovico Sforza (known as "il Moro"). She was one of the most important personalities of the time and, despite her short life, she was a major player in Italian politics.

Beatrice d'Este (Ferrara, 29 giugno 1475 – Milano, 2 gennaio 1497) soprannominata Sternit, cioè Abbatte, in riferimento alla capacità di conquistarsi il trono abbattendo ogni ostacolo, fu duchessa di Milano e di Bari, principatus socia del marito, secondo l'espressione dell'imperatore Massimiliano I.

Isabella d'Este and her younger sister Beatrice were two of the most famous women of the Renaissance period in Europe (about 1450–1550). Despite their fame, until 1976 only one obscure full-length biography had been written on each in the 400 years since their deaths.
