Eleanor de Clare, suo jure 6th Lady of Glamorgan (October 1292 – 30 June 1337) was a powerful Anglo-Welsh noblewoman who married Hugh Despenser the Younger, the future favourite of Edward II of England, and was a granddaughter of Edward I of England.

Eleanor de Clare, suo jure 6th Lady of Glamorgan (3 October 1292 – 30 June 1337) was a powerful Anglo-Welsh noblewoman who married Hugh Despenser the Younger and was a granddaughter of Edward I of England. [2] [3] She was born in 1292 at Caerphilly in Glamorgan, Wales.
Despenser the Younger claimed the Lordship of Glamorgan in 1317 through his wife Eleanor de Clare. He then accumulated more lands in the Welsh Marches and in England.
Eleanor de Clare was the eldest daughter of Gilbert de Clare (the 6th Earl of Hertford, 7th Earl of Gloucester and Lord of Glamorgan), and his second wife Joan of Acre, who was the daughter of Edward I and Eleanor of Castile.
