Justus Jonas, the Elder (5 June 1493 – 9 October 1555), or simply Justus Jonas, was a German Lutheran theologian and reformer. He was a Jurist, Professor and Hymn writer. He is best known for his translations of the writings of Martin Luther and Philipp Melanchthon. [1]
Justus Jonas, German religious reformer and legal scholar. A colleague of Martin Luther, he played a prominent role in the early Reformation conferences, particularly at Marburg (1529) and at Augsburg (1530), where he helped draft the Augsburg Confession.

Justus Jonas, o Velho (1493-1555) [1] (* Nordhausen, 5 de Junho de 1493 † Eisfeld, 9 de Outubro de 1555) foi jurista, humanista, historiador, teólogo e reformador alemão. Foi tradutor da Bíblia e compositor de hinos.
A humanist and canon lawyer at the outset of the Reformation, Justus Jonas became a trusted confidant of the Wittenberg reformers and stood alongside them at some of the more significant events of the period.
Justus Jonas. (1493 - 1555) Jonas studied jurisprudence and later theology at the University in Erfurt. In 1521 he came to Wittenberg as a professor and Probst at the Castle Church. Jonas was indespensible to Luther while he translated the Bible.
