Maurice Robert "Mike" Gravel (/ ɡ r ə ˈ v ɛ l / grə-VELL; May 13, 1930 – June 26, 2021) was an American politician and writer who represented Alaska in the United States Senate from 1969 to 1981 as a member of the Democratic Party. He ran for president twice (U.S. presidential nominations).
