Major-General Chaim Herzog (Hebrew: חיים הרצוג ; 17 September 1918 – 17 April 1997) was an Israeli politician, general, lawyer and author who served as the sixth President of Israel between 1983 and 1993.

Chaim Herzog is one of the most well-known Jewish fighters who participated in World War II. During his service as an officer in the British Army, he took part in historic battles that led to the liberation of Europe from the Nazis, including Normandy landings (D-Day) and the liberation of the Bergen-Belsen camp.
During the 1967 Six-Day War, Herzog was the leading military commentator on Israeli radio, and afterwards became the first military governor of the West Bank. He was elected to the Knesset on the Labor ticket in 1981, serving until 1983.
