Lot Myrick Morrill (May 3, 1813 – January 10, 1883) was an American politician who served as the 28th governor of Maine, as a United States senator, and as U.S. secretary of the treasury under President Ulysses S. Grant.
A delegate to the 1861 “Peace Convention,” Morrill remained in the United States Senate from 1861 to 1869, voting for Reconstruction, for giving former slaves equal rights, and for the conviction of President Andrew Johnson on articles of impeachment.
Lot M. Morrill (1812 - 1883) earned the reputation of an accomplished financier in the Senate (1861 - 1876) as the first Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations.
Governor of Maine from 1858 to 1860, Morrill was elected as a Republican to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Hannibal Hamlin. He was reelected in 1863 and served from January 17, 1861, to March 3, 1869.
The United States Revenue Cutter Morrill was built at Wilmington, Delaware, and commissioned in October 1889 under the official name Lot M. Morrill. She served off Florida and in the Spanish–American War. She then served on the Great Lakes.
