  3. ENOS T. THROOP, the twelfth governor of New York, was born in Johnstown, New York on August 21, 1784. His education was limited and attained in the common schools of his native state. However, he went on to study law, and in 1806 was admitted to the bar. After establishing his legal career in Auburn, Throop entered into politics.
