Fitzhugh Lee (November 19, 1835 – April 28, 1905) was a Confederate cavalry general in the American Civil War, the 40th Governor of Virginia, diplomat, and United States Army general in the Spanish–American War.
Fitzhugh Lee was the nephew of Robert E. Lee and a distinguished cavalry commander in the Civil War. He fought in several major battles, including Antietam, Chancellorsville, and Gettysburg, and later became governor of Virginia and consul general in Cuba.

As governor of Virginia (1886-1890), Lee devoted himself to bringing stability to state finances. In general, he allowed the Democratic-controlled legislature to make policy decisions while he remained aloof from politics. His tenure was characterized by an economic ''boom," and Governor Lee was an active participant in the New South movement.
Fitzhugh Lee. 1835-1905. Fitzhugh Lee came from the distinguished lineage of the Virginia Lee's -- grandson of Henry "Light-Horse Harry" and nephew of Robert E. Lee. He graduated from West Point in 1856, but resigned his commission with the U.S. army to join the Confederate forces.
