Horst Köhler was the eighth Managing Director of the IMF from 2000 to 2004, before running for President of Germany. He has a doctorate in economics and political sciences, and served in various positions in Germany's Ministries of Economics and Finance, as well as the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
