  2. Harry Primrose was born in 1967, and is the son and heir of Neil Primrose, 7th Earl of Rosebery. He is a great-grandson of Prime Minister Archibald Primrose, 5th Earl of Rosebery, and Hannah de Rothschild, the richest woman in Britain. The earls of Rosebery own Dalmeny House and also owned Mentmore Towers until 1977.

  5. The Civil War Years. An ardent royalist, he joined Montrose's army during the Civil War, and was captured at the battle of Philiphaugh in 1645. On Charles II's abortive attempt to regain the throne in 1650 Archibald Primrose joined the Royalist Army. He marched with them to the battle of Worcester, after which he lost his estates.

  6. Their eldest son, Albert Edward Harry Primrose, the sixth Earl, represented Midlothian in Parliament from 1906 to 1910 but then did not take an active part in politics until the 1940s, when he served in Winston Churchill's 1945 caretaker government as Secretary of State for Scotland.

  7. After the death of his father in 1929, Harry became the 6th Earl of Rosebery and took on all of his father’s hereditary titles including the title created in 1911 of Baron Epsom of Epsom. Harry also became a member of the House of Lords and was made Lord Lieutenant of Midlothian 1929-1964.
