  7. Frederick Ponsonby was born on 6 July 1783, the second son of the 3rd Earl of Bessborough. He was educated at Harrow and commissioned into the 10th Light Dragoons in Jan 1801. He reached the rank of captain on 20 Aug 1803, and exchanged to the 60th Rifles in April 1806.
