William James Samford (September 16, 1844 – June 11, 1901) was an American attorney and politician who served as the 31st Governor of Alabama and in the United States House of Representatives.

In 1882 Samford served in the Alabama House of Representatives and the Alabama Senate from 1884 to 1886, and in 1892, serving as president in 1886. He was on the Board of Trustees to the University of Alabama in 1896. On August 5, 1900, Samford was elected Alabama’s 31st governor.
