In 1977, La Soufrière volcano is about to erupt. The island it sits on is evacuated. The surrounding towns are eerily empty as police, army, scientists have all deserted to avoid the inevitable eruption. Werner Herzog decides to drive around the ghost towns and climb the volcano.
