Dr. Gillespie's New Assistant is a 1942 feature film from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and the second Dr. Gillespie film. Directed by Willis Goldbeck, it introduced two new doctors, Dr. Randall Adams (Van Johnson) and Dr. Lee Wong How (Keye Luke).
Dr. Gillespie is working too hard and needs an assistant doctor to help him with his patients. Gillespie has three candidates: Van Johnson, Richard Quinne, and Keye Luke. Each assistant assumes the responsibility for one of Gillespie's patients.
Blair General Hospital's Dr. Leonard Gillespie has been working so hard that his friends, chief administrator Dr. Walter Carew and head nurse Molly Byrd, are concerned. When the wheelchair-bound Gillespie falls asleep on a hospitalized patient, they demand that he finally select a new assistant.
