In 1979, Mary Murphy Schroeder joined a historic class of women judges who transformed the federal Judiciary, but her law career nearly ended before it began. The night before her first final law exam at the University of Chicago, Schroeder collapsed and was hospitalized with a severe kidney infection.

Biography: Mary M. Schroeder. The Women Trailblazers Project is the only nationwide project devoted exclusively to capturing, recording, and preserving the complete life histories of pioneering women lawyers as told by the women themselves.
Schroeder: Well, when I went to work at Lewis and Roca, my principle expertise was in government contracts. I had done a lot of government work with hospital construction and building construction.
