Albert John DeRogatis was born May 5, 1927 in Newark, NJ. Quick and powerful, Al grew to 6’4” during his four years playing varsity football at Newark’s Central High, garnering All-State honors and distinguishing himself as one of the most sought-after prep linemen in the country.
Al DeRogatis was an all-star at three levels. He was all-state at Central High, Newark, New Jersey in 1944, All-America at Duke University in 1948 and All-Pro with the New York Giants in 1951. He played center in high school and in his freshman year at Duke and was a tackle the remaining years.
