The M-Base Collective. Most of the ideas behind the M-Base Conception involve using music to express life. Although this sounds vague, the only way to really understand music is to listen to it. Some aspects of music cannot be adequately described using words.
The late 1980s found Coleman working to codify his early ideas using the group Steve Coleman and Five Elements and working with a collective of musicians called the M-Base Collective.
M-Base is a way of thinking about creating music, it is not the music itself. One of the main ideas in M-Base is growth through creativity. As we learn through our experiences then the music will change and grow to reflect that.

31 de mar. de 2023 · Perfectly recorded (and surprisingly released in Japan only by domestic DIW label), "Anatomy of a Groove" represents M-Base music at its best. Groovy, funky, precisely played, creative but well-framed, it sounds fresh and unexpected, especially taking into account that the 90s weren't the most inspiring time for jazz.
