Mariana Carcelén y Larrea nació el 27 de julio de 1805 en medio de una aristocrática familia de la ciudad de Quito. Hija de Teresa de Larrea y de Felipe Carcelén y Sánchez de Orellana, séptimo marqués de Solanda y quinto marqués de Villarrocha.
