John Howard, 1st Duke of Norfolk KG, also known as Jack of Norfolk, (c. 1425 – 22 August 1485), was an English nobleman, soldier, politician, and the first Howard Duke of Norfolk. He was a close friend and loyal supporter of King Richard III , with whom he was slain at the Battle of Bosworth in 1485.

27 de mai. de 2024 · Howard was a retainer of the 3rd duke and perhaps on his nomination the first Yorkist sheriff of Norfolk in 1461, shortly before Edward IV knighted him on the battlefield of Towton. Thereafter he was one of the king's most valuable servants. He became Lord Howard in 1470.
The Howard family is an English noble family founded by John Howard, who was created Duke of Norfolk (third creation) by King Richard III of England in 1483. However, John was also the eldest grandson (although maternal) of the 1st Duke of the first creation.
