  2. Growing older, Winston passed the age of in-home learning and moved toward boarding school. During his childhood education, Churchill maintained a poor academic record. He attended three schools: St. George’s School in Berkshire; Brunswick School (since renamed Stoke Brunswick School) in Hove; and Harrow School.

  3. In answer to Mr. Porter’s query, Brunswick School is still extant and proud of its connection with WSC. The school moved from Haywards Heath to a large country house, Dutton-Homestall, in Ashurst Wood, West Sussex in 1958. It was joined by Stoke House, formerly at Seaford, in 1963. It is now called Stoke Brunswick.

  6. A large co-educational school, Stoke Brunswick School was an independent boarding school based in West Sussex, East Grinstead. The oldest part of the building dates back to the 14th Century built in a Tudor style and was the hunting lodge belonging to John of Gaunt, the third son of Kind Edward III.

  7. Dutton Homestall, surrounded by around 14 hectares of gardens, was bought in 1958 as the site for Brunswick School which, from 1965 with the addition of Stoke House, became the present Stoke Brunswick School.
