  5. 10 de jan. de 2021 · The Life and Lies of Augustus Dickens. 10 January 2021. In the 1850s, Augustus, the youngest brother of Charles Dickens, abandoned his wife in London and ran away to America with his pregnant girlfriend. He was barely spoken about in the family again.

  6. Dickens tells us in the preface to Pickwick how the nickname 'Boz' arose - Dickens called Augustus 'Moses' after Moses Primrose in The Vicar of Wakefield which 'being facetiously pronounced through the nose, became Boses, and being shortened, became Boz'2.

  7. Dickens apparently adopted it from the nickname "Moses", which he had given to his youngest brother Augustus Dickens, after a character in Oliver Goldsmith's The Vicar of Wakefield. When pronounced by anyone with a head cold, "Moses" became "Boses"—later shortened to Boz.
