He was an American geologist and paleontologist known for his work on the fossil mollusks of the California Pacific Coast.
Ulysses S. Grant (born Hiram Ulysses Grant; [b] April 27, 1822 – July 23, 1885) was an American military officer and politician who served as the 18th president of the United States from 1869 to 1877. As commanding general, Grant led the Union Army to victory in the American Civil War in 1865 and briefly served as U.S. secretary of war.
In his first Inaugural Address, President Ulysses S. Grant focuses much of his speech on the country's economics. He also stresses efforts to heal divisions throughout the country, and he notes his support for the ratification of the Fifteenth Amendment to the US Constitution, which gives citizens, including former slaves, the right to vote.
