  1. Caldwell Hart Colt (November 24, 1858 – January 21, 1894) was an American inventor and yachtsman. Biography. Caldwell Hart Colt was born in Hartford, Connecticut, the son of Samuel Colt, founder of Colt's Patent Fire-Arms Manufacturing Company (now known as Colt's Manufacturing Company) and Elizabeth Jarvis Colt.

  2. On November 24 th, 1858 Samuel Colt and Elizabeth Hart Jarvis Colt were blessed with a son, Caldwell Hart Colt. Caldwell was their only child who lived to adulthood, but he, like his father Samuel, and siblings, passed before Elizabeth.

  3. Caldwell Hart Colt was the only child of Elizabeth and Samuel Colt to survive into adulthood. Unfortunately, he died at the young age of 35 on January 21, 1894. Shortly after his death, Elizabeth commissioned Edward Tuckerman Potter, the architect of the Church of the Good Shepherd, to design a memorial parish house.

  4. The Caldwell Colt Memorial Parish House. Commodore Caldwell Hart Colt, Mrs. Colt’s only child to reach adulthood, died mysteriously in Florida at the age of 36 in 1894.
