  3. The BFA program is designed to provide students with a full range of technical and practical skills, to teach them to think critically about their chosen mediums, and to guide their artistic growth as they experiment with different forms of cinematic expression.

  5. We welcome your interest in our unique, creative community. Below is a step-by-step guide to applying to California Institute of the Arts. These steps can be completed relatively quickly or over the course of several months. The application for Spring 2024 and Fall 2024 enrollment is now open.

  6. The first year of the Program’s intensive four-year curriculum is devoted to courses in life drawing, color and design, storytelling and character animation—both traditional and CG. The second year takes this work to a higher level by incorporating elements such as dialogue, sound effects and music.

  7. The first two BFA years are intended to create a strong foundation for art making and critical thinking; the final two BFA years are intended to allow more personal exploration, grounded in one-on-one study, exhibitions or projects, and corresponding reviews.
