The Photon Valley Center was established in April 2017 as an internal organization of the Hamamatsu Agency for Innovation. The Photon Valley Center aims to use the advanced knowledge accumulated in the region, from photonics technology to electronics technology and information technology.
Hamamatsu has grown significantly over the years, with some 15,000 photonics products and technologies found in a huge variety of applications, ranging from consumer electronics to astronomy, from industry to quantum, and many more - the list is almost endless.
Hamamatsu University was established as Tokoha Gakuen Hamamatsu University (常葉学園浜松大学, Tokoha Gakuen Hamamatsu Daigaku) in 1988. It added a Department of International Economics in 1994, and a graduate studies program in 1996. In 1998, it changed its name to "Hamamatsu University". It closed in 2016. External links
