The Road to Ballina is the fourth solo album by English musician Jakko M. Jakszyk. Unlike most of his other releases, it is a radio ballad composed of an equal mix of spoken word and musical content, originally created by Jakszyk and radio producer Simon Elmes and broadcast on BBC Radio 3 in 1996.
Here, he talks to Dave Stewart about the making of his unique autobiographical CD The Road to Ballina. In the mid‑'70s, Jakko Jakszyk (pronounced 'Jack‑check') was guitarist and vocalist with the eccentric UK jazz‑rock combo 64 Spoons, before embarking on a slow‑burning solo career in 1980.

Since 1991, Jakszyk had been sketching out plans for an autobiographical radio piece called The Road to Ballina, a mixed music-and-spoken word project exploring his own family history and his bittersweet search for his birth mother.
