Staff College, Camberley, Surrey, was a staff college for the British Army and the presidency armies of British India (later merged to form the Indian Army). It had its origins in the Royal Military College, High Wycombe, founded in 1799, which in 1802 became the Senior Department of the new Royal Military College.

CACSC is charged with developing in army officers the ability to perform command and staff functions in war. Courses currently conducted at, or under the auspices of, the College include the Army Operations Course, the Primary Reserves Army Operations Course, and the Commanding Officers Course.
Staff colleges (also command and staff colleges and War colleges) train military officers in the administrative, military staff and policy aspects of their profession. It is usual for such training to occur at several levels in a career.

The Camberley Staff College was established in 1858 to address the obvious deficiencies in British Army staff work witnessed in the recent Crimean War. The institution was deliberately called the Staff College to emphasise its primary function of providing a formal staff education.
