The college was founded as a women's teacher training college in 1892 by followers of Friedrich Fröbel. The Froebel Society had been formed in 1874 and in 1892 Julia Salis Schwabe led an initiative to found a college for training teachers.
Froebel College is one of four colleges that make up the University of Roehampton. Founded in 1892. The College is based within and around Grove House which dates back to 1792 and was designed by architect James Wyatt for Sir Joshua Vanneck.

Froebel College is one of four colleges that make up the University of Roehampton. Founded in 1892, it has for many years been a college in which high academic achievement, profoundly influenced by its tradition, has produced outstanding success in academic life, especially in teacher education.
Set in over fifteen acres of historic parkland the College now is home to the Departments of Dance and Education, but the students allocated to Froebel College can be studying any academic subject offered by the university.
In 1892, followers of Fröbel established a college of teacher education in South West London to continue his traditions. Froebel College is now a constituent college of Roehampton University and is home to the university's department of education.
