Father Brown (German: Pater Brown) is a West German mystery television series which aired between 1966 and 1972 on ARD. [1] It is based on the Father Brown stories of British writer G.K. Chesterton, about a crime-solving Catholic priest. The title role was played by the Austrian actor Josef Meinrad.

Chesterton loosely based him on the Rt Rev. Msgr John O'Connor (1870–1952), a parish priest in Bradford, who was involved in Chesterton's conversion to Catholicism in 1922. [1] Since 2013, the character has been portrayed by Mark Williams in the ongoing BBC Television Series Father Brown .
