Otte Brahe (Danish: [ˈotsʰə ˈpʁɑːə]; [citation needed] 2 October 1518 – 9 May 1571) was a Danish nobleman and statesman, who served on the privy council (Rigsraad, "Council of the Realm"). He was married to Beate Clausdatter Bille and was the father of astronomers Tycho and Sophia Brahe.

On the 21st of August 1560 the then fifteen year old Tycho Brahe observed a solar eclipse and it became the decisive experience, which led him to the serious study of astronomy. Tycho Brahe was born into a high ranking noble family on December 15, 1546.
Otte Brahe died in 1571; the will was finally straightened out in 1574. Tycho shared the patrimonial estate of Kundstrup with his brother Steen. The estate was comprised of 200 farms, 25 cottages, and 5 1/2 mills. It was a rather small inheritance given Tycho's family, but enough to support him in comfort.
