Aftershock is an album by the R&B band Average White Band, released in 1989. Three original bandmembers returned; Alex Ligertwood joined on vocals. Chaka Khan sang on two of the album's songs. Track Records, the band's label, was unable to effectively promote Aftershock. The album was a moderate success in Europe.

The Average White Band (also known as AWB) are a Scottish funk and R&B band that had a series of soul and disco hits between 1974 and 1980. They are best known for their million-selling instrumental track "Pick Up the Pieces", and their albums AWB and Cut the Cake. The band name was initially proposed by Bonnie Bramlett.
This isn't a stellar album, but it has its moments, mostly provided by electro-fun pioneer producer John Robie's production, which recalls that complex, clean Scritti Politti 80s polish. Standouts are the title track, The Spirit of Love (with background vocals by Chaka Khan), and I'll Get Over You, which sounds like a single, but never was.
Yvette Marie Stevens (born March 23, 1953), better known by her stage name Chaka Khan (/ ˈ ʃ ɑː k ə ˈ k ɑː n / SHAH-kə KAHN), is an American singer. Known as the "Queen of Funk", her career has spanned more than five decades beginning in the early 1970s as the lead vocalist of the funk band Rufus.
