The Great Green Wall Initiative of the Sahara and the Sahel is Africa’s Flagship programme including a mosaic of land-based projects leveraging the land-water-energy Nexus for restored land, carbon capture and more green jobs in the Sahel for Youth and Women.
The GGW initiative’s ambition is to restore 100 million hectares of currently degraded land; sequester 250 million tons of carbon and create 10 million green jobs by 2030. This will help communities living along the Wall to grow: one of humanity’s most precious natural assets: fertile land.

The Great Green Wall is one of the most inspirational and urgent movements of our times. This African-led initiative aims to grow an 8000km new world wonder across the entire width of the Continent to transform the lives of millions living on the frontline of climate change.
By 2030, the Wall aims to restore 100 million hectares of currently degraded land, sequester 250 million tonnes of carbon and create 10 million jobs in rural areas. The Great Green Wall contributes directly to the 2030 UN Sustainable Development Goals.
