  1. Vice-Admiral Thomas Butler, 6th Earl of Ossory, KG, PC, PC (Ire) (8 July 1634 – 30 July 1680) was an Irish soldier and politician. He was the eldest son of James Butler, 1st Duke of Ormond but predeceased his father and therefore never succeeded as duke.

  4. Butler was rewarded for his compliance by being created Earl of Ossory on 22 February 1528. [1] [2] In 1662, the eldest son of James Butler, 1st Duke of Ormonde was called to the Irish House of Lords on a writ of acceleration and became known as Thomas Butler, 6th Earl of Ossory.

Created earl of Ossory in 1662, he was made (1665) lieutenant general in Ireland and often acted as deputy lord lieutenant there for his father.
