My Oni Girl is a part of the three-picture deal between Netflix, Studio Colorido, and Twin Engine. Directed by Tomotaka Shibayama and written by Shibayama and Yuko Kakihara, the film tells the story of Hiiragi Yatsuse, an incredibly introverted kid who comes across Tsumugi at a bus stop.
The ending of My Oni Girl is one of hope and endearment. Despite the trials and tribulations these characters went through, there’s a shining light to end the movie that is full of warmth. Suki demo Kirai na Amanojaku tells the story of Hiiragi Yatsuse, a first-year high school student who struggles to make friends despite his efforts to please others. His life takes an unexpected turn when one summer day, he meets Tsumugi, an oni (demon) girl on a quest to find her mother in the human world. Snow mysteriously begins to fall... and their adventure begins.
A little over 100 minutes, My Oni Girl is a fantasy adventure following Hiiragi Yatsuse and Tsumugi, an oni demon. Hiiragi is a kind-hearted high schooler who also happens to be a pushover. And as luck would have it, he runs into Tsumugi who needs his help finding her mother whose last-known location is the far-away Hie Shrine.
