Winnaretta Singer (8 de enero de 1865 - 26 de noviembre de 1943), princesa Edmond de Polignac, fue una importante mecenas musical y heredera de la empresa de máquinas de coser Singer Corporation. Estudió piano y órgano. En 1893 se casó con Edmond de Polignac, homosexual como ella, pudiendo así vivir en libertad cada uno, gracias a esta unión.
Winnaretta and Edmond were introduced to Proust in 1894 in Paris, by Count Robert de Montesquiou-Fezensac.Proust soon became a regular guest, along with his friend Reynaldo Hahn, at the Polignac salon in Paris, where he heard many of the great composers and performers of the day including Charles-Marie Widor, Eugène Gigout, Louis Vierne, Alexandre Guilmant and Gabriel Fauré.
