Foi o carro que estabeleceu a fórmula original, com um flat-six arrefecido a ar pendurado na traseira, e inaugurou a silhueta básica que o nine-eleven conserva até hoje. A versão básica usava um motor de dois litros e 130 cv no ano do lançamento.
