It is the traditional capital of Moravia. North of Brno is the Moravian Karst, a region famous for its caves, grottoes, and gorges.
Brno est fondée en 1243 et reste une ville fortifiée jusqu'au XIXe siècle. Elle devient la seule capitale du margraviat de Moravie à partir de 1641 réf.. Elle est le centre politique et culturel de la région de la Moravie méridionale. Le 2 décembre 1805, la Bataille d'Austerlitz s'est déroulée à proximité de la ville.
