Rabindranath Tagore, of Thakur (Calcutta, 7 mei 1861 - aldaar, 7 augustus 1941) was een beroemd dichter, roman- en toneelschrijver. Tevens beoefende hij de schilderkunst en sprak ook Esperanto [1] . Hij was bovendien de eerste Indiase winnaar van de Nobelprijs voor Literatuur in 1913.
Rabindranath Tagore fréquente d'abord l'Oriental Seminary. Peu disposé à un système éducatif formel, il commence à étudier à domicile sous la houlette de professeurs particuliers.
