Edmund Dudley was elected to Parliament in 1491. In November 1496 he was chosen one of the two under-sheriffs of London, and in 1501 he served on a commission to investigate infringements of the king's feudal rights and prerogatives in Sussex. In January 1504, Henry VII appointed Dudley to serve as speaker of the House of Commons.
Edmund Dudley, minister of Henry VII, was a man both personally extraordinary and yet representative of his age. He abandoned the normal cursus honorum of the legal profession to enter the king's service more suddenly than any of his contemporaries; yet he was one of many common lawyers newly influential in the king's councils of the later fifteenth and earlier sixteenth centuries.
25 de mai. de 2006 · Abstract. Although Richard Empson and Edmund Dudley were executed in 1510 in part for their rabid prosecution of written bonds, their activities at the time were only quietly recognized as part of a royal policy encouraged by Henry VII (1485–1509).
9 de mai. de 2022 · Realising that his popularity was predicated on the destruction of the detested Edmund Dudley, he sent the order for Edmund’s execution, which was carried out on 17 August 1510. Henry VIII then burned through the money Edmund had collected in a few short years, his reputation for swift justice and majestic display built on the labour and blood of Edmund Dudley.

29 de nov. de 2022 · Edmund Dudley (c. 1462 [1] or 1471/1472 [2] – 17 August 1510) was an English administrator and a financial agent of King Henry VII. He served as Speaker of the House of Commons and President of the King's Council. After the accession of Henry VIII, he was imprisoned in the Tower of London and executed the next year on a treason charge.
