John Hampden (c. June 1595 – 24 June 1643) was an English landowner and politician whose opposition to 'arbitrary' taxes imposed by Charles I made him a national figure.
John Hampden (born 1594, London—died June 24, 1643, Thame, Oxfordshire, Eng.) was an English Parliamentary leader famous for his opposition to King Charles I over ship money, an episode in the controversies that ultimately led to the English Civil Wars.
