Draig. Draigs are lizard-like bred by the giants for use in war. Their torso is low to the ground, carried on four bowed legs with curved, raking claws. They have a broad, flat skull and a square jaw with protruding razored teeth and a thick tongue. Nathair and Veradis defeat the Shekam giants in a battle where the giants ride draigs.

Gar's stallion, Hammer, sires a skewbald colt that he gives to Corban. In the battle in the throne room of Dun Carreg, Gar reveals his mastery of the sword. He kills 10 of Nathair’s elite Eagle Guard, including Rauca, one of Nathair’s champions. He then duels Sumur but is unable to finish the fight.
And we watch them grow. The plot is obviously the driving factor and it is very uniquely crafted over the four books. I won't say much of the plot because I fear I might spoil, but rest assured the plot is as good as it gets. The pacing is a bit slow in the first half of book 1 but then it picks up pace and doesn't stop till the end of book 4!
