  3. I liked Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid a lot in 1982, but now it’s merely clever and fitfully amusing. The idea of a private-eye spoof built around clips from films from the 40s, with the exception of In a Lonely Place , sounds promising, but more thought could have been put into choosing the clips, integrating them with the new footage, and the writing of the Martin-Ward-Reiner scenes.

  4. The real joy is watching the archive footage of all those wonderful actors and actresses in those timeless masterpieces. Spotting stars such as Humphrey Bogart, Cary Grant, Bette Davis, Ray Milland, Vincent Price and Ingrid Bergman all but to name a few was a delight in itself. Also the finale while silly is great fun.
