Agharta documents the tail end of the final groundbreaking phase of Davis's career, when he was nearing his physical and mental limits. Miles' live bands of the era had always seemed unstable. Recordings from '73 and '74 show groups trying to find their footing, experimenting with a muddy sitar or adding a 3rd guitarist for a one-night gig (with no rehearsal, of course).
