Ripon Grammar School is placed in the top 5% of schools nationally for the progress students make in sixth form. Consistently rated among the top schools in the country for results, the majority of our students go on to study at elite Russell Group universities, including Oxford and Cambridge, with others winning places on degree apprenticeships or entering the world of employment.
Families with a child already attending another school, in Year 7-11, may apply for In-Year testing for admission to Ripon Grammar School. Entrance tests are set at an appropriate age-related standard in mathematics, English and science. If a student is deemed suitable, and a place is available, an offer will be made by NYC.
The Sunday Times Parent Power Secondary Schools Guide 2014, Ripon Grammar was highlighted as the top performing state secondary school in the North. It was ranked 14th in the whole region, with all the schools above it in the table being in the fee-paying independent sector.
Lower school information. At Ripon Grammar School forms are divided into Lower School and Upper School. Lower School covers Key Stage 3, from first form to third form. There is a head of Year 7, head of Year 8 and head of Year 9 for students in the Lower School. Our Pastoral Support Officer works closely with all year groups.

At Ripon Grammar School the Upper School covers Key Stage 4 (fourth and fifth form). The head of Year 11 is Mrs Katy Hawthorne and the Head of Year 10 is Mr Patrick Barber. Our Pastoral Support Officer, Mrs Emma Hewison, is also available for students in both the Lower and the Upper School.
